Assignment 3

Kelly Malone

My results for the cognitive style inventory test:
Intuitive/emotional-
Intuitive persons prefer to receive data from the unconscious, or seeing relationships via insights, they mentally live in the Future, Uses imagination and creates/invents new possibilities automatically, their memory recall emphasizes patterns, contexts, and connections and is comfortable with ambiguous, fuzzy data and with guessing its meaning. Feeling (Emotional) uses 'more or less, better-worse' evaluations. The feeling side of our brain forms conclusions in an attached and somewhat global manner, based on likes/dislikes, impact on others, and human and aesthetic values. It is our subjective/emotional nature.
My results for the learning style inventory test:
Auditory learner-
If you are an auditory learner, you may wish to use tapes. Tape lectures to help you fill in the gaps in your notes. But do listen and take notes, reviewing notes frequently. Sit in the lecture hall or classroom where you can hear well. After you have read something, summarize it and recite it aloud.
I believe the results of the two tests to be very accurate. I always work towards a goal in the future, or always have a picture of the future whether it be next week or ten years from now, I always have an idea of where I am headed. In teaching I believe this outlook would be very helpful for setting goals as to where I would like my students to be, and know through their learning experience. I am very good at thinking in alternative ways, and finding ways for things to make sense. Having the personality trait of being emotional, I find it easy to tap into others feelings, which will be very useful when working with students. I will have the ability to sense when a student is not getting a particular problem, and be able to find a creative, and alternative way for them to think about, and understand it.
It was very interesting to see me results came out as an auditory learner. I have always considered myself to be more visual that auditory, but after reading the definition and characteristics of an auditory learner, I found myself being able to completely relating. I find that when I listen to a story, or a lecture the material sticks more than when I am simply reading it. I find it hard for my mind to not wander when reading a large amount of text. This prompted the idea that I should begin taping lectures, as a study tool. I also am going to begin to read over my notes several times, and maybe real them out loud in hopes I will understand them better. When teaching I will be sure to acknowledge the fact that each student learns differently. I will always do my best to cater to both visual and auditory learners.
